Staff Pick: Dan Wade on Jimmy Eat World at Riot Fest ChicagoSee the band play at Riot Fest on Friday, September 16.
One of the best things about working with the Riot Fest staff is that while everyone here is passionate about music, we all have different tastes. Just showing up, you’re bound to learn something new or get a different perspective on a band from someone who really knows their stuff.
When it comes to Jimmy Eat World, who are playing the festival on Friday night, Riot Fest graphic artist Dan Wade is one of our resident experts. Read on for why he’s excited to see them once again at Riot Fest this year:
“Jimmy Eat World is one of my favorite bands. They have been one of my favorite bands since high school, when I first discovered Static Prevails (1996) and later, Clarity (1999). Call them emo, play their singles at your pop-punk themed bar DJ events, wonder aloud if they’re still around (their new album, Integrity Blues, is on the way on October 21, pay attention), claim you like the old stuff better, you only know three songs, or you hate that one song, I don’t care. I love every single album. I’ve seen them live many times over the years, but never at Riot Fest. Jimmy Eat World have always been my Riot Fest wish list band, and I can safely say I’m more excited to see them than any other band playing this year—album plays, living legends and reunion sets be damned.
Here are my favorite Jimmy Eat World albums ranked from my favorite (transcendent classic) to least-favorite (still pretty good):”
- Bleed American
- Chase This Light
- Static Prevails
