One of the most mythical artists to grace the Riot Fest stage, Saxsquatch has been making a name for himself in the human-dominated music scene since his debut in 2020. Saxsquatch (a moniker fitting for a saxophone playing Sasquatch) is best known for his unforgettable live performances, as well as popular singles such as “CANTINA”, “Moondance”, and his most recent release “Epic Saxsquatch”.

Interview with Saxsquatch
Q: Riot Fest would really love to know what your full legal name is.
Saxsquatch: First name Sax. Last name, Squatch.
Q: As a Sasquatch, how were you first introduced to the saxophone? Who are some of your biggest musical influences: Sasquatch, human, or otherwise?
Saxsquatch: So me and my family. We had a radio out in the woods and the first time, I heard the saxophone, it was Junior Walker playing Urgent by Foreigner. He’s the guy who plays that that screaming sax solo. It immediately went straight to my heart and I was like I have to be doing this. I have to play the saxophone. I kind of became obsessed with it. Eventually I got one from a pawn shop and everyone started calling me Sax Squash.
Q: That’s awesome. Is anyone else in your family or the Sasquatch community particularly musical?
Saxsquatch: Yeah, my grandfather his name was Gigfoot. And my sister too, my sister, Big Flute. We had great parties for sure.
Q: Do you have a dream musical collaborator?
Saxsquatch: Yeah, I have a lot of them. I’m really excited about Oliver Tree at Riot Fest. They’re on the same stage as me and I’m hoping, I mean, it would be a dream to sit in with him on a song!
Q: What is your all-time favorite meal?
Saxsquatch: I’m a big nuts and berries squatch. I really love berries and…walnuts for sure. I like mixed berries, I like blueberries, I like melons, I mean a good honeydew is really good.
Q: Is a melon a berry?
Saxsquatch: No, but I’m just going with these sweet treats. I like sweet treats after a long day.
Q: You’re one of the most public-facing figures of the Sasquatch community, what is it like being at the forefront of Sasquatch representation?
Saxsquatch: I have to say, I’m super honored, we’re not a very outspoken community, however, I do take it to heart the opportunity to bring awareness about the Sasquatch community and hopefully bring people together in the spirit of great music and amazing memories.
Q: Tell me a bit about your pre-show ritual. Is there anything that you do to get yourself in the mindset to perform?
Saxsquatch: I like the pace around. And importantly, I don’t like to wait before going on stage. I like to be super busy and then all of a sudden I just go on stage that way I don’t have to think about anything, I don’t have to really do the butterflies, I’m busy doing something and then I just walk on stage. I’m never late, but I like to keep the schedule tight.
Q: Have you ever met Grimace? And if not, what would you like to say to him?
Saxsquatch: I have never met Grimace. However, I would love to tell him that I believe in him, and I hope to see him out there and that I’ll be squatching him.
Q: Do you brush your hair every morning? And how long does that take you?
Saxsquatch: The hair? I need to. This is just kind of naturally how it is. I’m kind of a wild animal and I let my hair go. Every now and then my girlfriend. Her name is thick foot. She’ll brush my hair for me. She insists. However I kind of let it go on my own.
Q: You’ve consistently defied boundaries and expectations for Sasquatches and what they can accomplish in the music industry, and we’re wondering what we can expect in terms of future directions for Saxsquatch.
Saxsquatch: So, I just started singing on some songs. So, I’m using my vocals and the saxophone, I’ve got four lasers at my shows, I got some cryo effects, some CO2 cannons. And I’m looking to throw some amazing parties. I want everyone to feel just totally renewed after a saxsquatch show. And I want people to come ready to party. I just got some visuals from this awesome guy Mo Angelo in Colorado, so I have visuals at my shows too and I’m super excited. Things have been snowballing in a major way. It’s really exciting.
Q: We’re so excited to have you at Riot Fest this year! I Can’t wait to see you take the stage on Sunday. Anything else you have to say to all of your loyal fans out there?
Saxsquatch: I just can’t wait to connect with y’all. Again, my last show in Chicago was just absolutely wild and I just can’t wait to feel the energy of the crowd. I hope that y’all are as loud as possible because I love that energy. And I’ll be squatching you out there.
