Back in June we brought you some news about Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson were collaborating on a Silm Dunlop benefit track. Now, according to a Rolling Stone article posted yesterday, the two have expanded the project into a four song 10″ and are using The Replacements name on the masthead. Chris Mars, who long ago gave up drumming for art, didn’t participate so his place was taken by Peter Anderson while the lead guitar slot was filled by Kevin Bowe from Westerberg’s solo band. The record is set to feature new versions of Silm Dunlap’s solo track “Busted Up,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” from the Broadway musical Gypsy, “I’m Not Sayin'” from Gordon Lightfoot and Hank Williams’s “Lost Highway.” The 10″ will be limited to 250 copies and auctioned off, so when there are more details on how that will work I’ll make sure to let you all know.
