Daily Riot Fest Roundup

Friday, June 9th, 2017
By Riot Fest / June 9, 2017 / Archive, Chicago, Roundup

Today is National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day. While strawberry rhubarb pie may never reach the status of a pumpkin or an apple, it’s still a damn fine pie, and you should stop whatever you’re doing and honor it (even if you probably can’t explain to us just what in the fuck a “rhubarb” is). Then watch this video, make a few of these bad boys, and mail them to our office so we can eat them.

OK, enough rambling about pie, it’s a big news day.

Bad Brains played a little surprise set at Darryl Jenifer’s art show at Okay Space in Brooklyn’s fashionable Williamsburg district last night. Brooklyn Vegan has the full story and pictures. We have PMA, FOMO, and this portrait-mode YouTube video of them opening their set with “The Youth are Getting Restless,” “Jah Love,” and “Re-Ignition.”

Manchester Orchestra has announced its first album since 2014’s Cope. A Black Mile to the Surface, coming out on July 28th on Loma Vista Recordings, features eleven songs and production from Catherine Marks (PJ Harvey, the Killers), John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen), and Dan Hannon. Pitchfork has the track listing, artwork, and all that. Check out the video for their new single, “The Gold.”

Rise Against releases its badass new album Wolves today, and most of the Riot Fest office is heading to their show with Deftones and Thrice at the Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago tonight. Looks like there are still a few tickets left if you’d like to come party with us. But first, dive into Wolves so we can all sing along. See ya in the pit!

Speaking of seeing ya in the pit, the saga that is Rancid‘s new album Trouble Maker has finally come to a head, as it’s finally release day! Check out the whole damn thing please, because it kicks ass.

Vic Mensa just dropped The Manuscript, a 4-song “capsule” of what’s to come from his forthcoming album, featuring production from heavyweights such as Pharrell Williams. Rolling Stone just published a full interview with Vic, and you can listen to the capsule right here!

Apparently, The Lawrence Arms‘ Brendan Kelly thinks the sex scene from The Stoned Age kicks ass too?

The current best, most ass kickingly blastable song ever is burnin for you by blue oyster cult and if you disagree you are wrong.
