Like so many of us, Frank Turner loves America. The not-so-ignorant Englishman loves our country so much, that he can’t sit idly by after being pummeled with nonsense from the Trump-loving, gun-toting, truth-hating, red hat-wearing Peanut Gallery that surrounds us.
Enter “Make America Great Again,” three and a half minutes of pure pop bliss; named after gaslightingly racist term stolen from one of Ronald Reagan’s late-1900s presidential campaigns, and written with the expressed intent of making racists ashamed again… among other things.
To visualize his point, Turner found enough downtime during his many shows at SXSW in Austin, Texas last month to film this special video for a special song about our countries’ most special relationship. In it, Pope Francis—armed with only a whiteboard, a cool bowtie, and the truth—asks folks on the street for their favorite thing about the United States of America.
“Make America Great Again” is the fifth track on Be More Kind, the seventh studio LP that Frank Turner has made for us; due out on Starbreaker Day (May 4, 2018) via Xtra Mile Recordings. The album is currently available for pre-order in Turner’s webstore.
Check out the video for yourself, but if you’re pressed for time, we put together a gallery of some of our favorite answers below. Now, let’s make America great again! Shit, we’ll settle for just good at this point.
