The dogs over at CACC are super psyched for Riot Fest because it’s just around the corner, LITERALLY! The Chicago Animal Care and Control is just down the street from Douglas Park located at 2741 S Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60608.
Since Friends of CACC has a booth at Riot Fest this year, the dogs have been excited prepping for the fest by listening to the bands performing, practicing their circle pit moves, and even changing some of their names! Make sure you stop by the booth and pick up some special and limited time merchandise!

Social Dee may not be touring the country, but she sure turns heads over here at Chicago Animal Care and Control. OMG! This girl is so much fun! She is just happy to be alive and loving life. Dee knows sit, takes treats and like an angel’s wings. Social Dee is so happy to see other dogs! She’d wiggle her butt right over to every dog she saw looking for some playtime. Dee is hoping to live her best life in a comfy home with her own family! Come meet this cool chick and make her a part of your life!

Slayer is da bomb! This hunk of love wants to crawl in your lap and give kisses all day! Slayer knows sit and takes treats gently, he showed a little bit of interest in playing with the ball, but this big “tough” guy was afraid of the stuffed Piggie. Suffice it to say…..Slayer is just a gentle giant. He’s a 20 lb lap dog in an 80 lb body. Slayer is just a boy, sitting at the shelter, waiting for his family….he needs out! Come get this calm, gentle soul, but avoid stuffed piggies.

Ya gotta love a dog who’s eye makeup is on point. Ramone is that dog! He’s ready to take the stage with his stunning good looks, smokey eye make up, and dazzling personality. He has muscles for days but is just a big softie. Ramone showed mild interest in toys, but was more interested in sitting on my lap. He gives sloppy wet kisses, and doesn’t care! Ramone has simple needs: love, a lap, a couch, and some kibble. Come get this boy with the cover girl looks!

Manchester is a tiny, amazingly cute boy. His tongue hangs out of the side of his mouth on occasion. He fits perfectly in your lap and in your jacket when he’s cold. Manchester is a senior boy who would benefit being in a comfortable home rather than in a shelter.

Blink is a scared owner surrender, but was brave enough to venture out of his cage. He’s just a baby boy. Outside, he liked exploring the lot, and talking to him with some encouragement made his sweet little Blinky tail wag. Blink knows how to “sit” on command and takes treats very gently. He can be a little head shy, so go slow with him and let him get used to your quick movements as a human. Blink loves to push his body into you and nuzzle his little nose in for petting, Blink has an amazing underbite and it’s to die for. He just needs to build up his confidence, but he’s a great boy!

Pogue doesn’t understand all the barking around him, so he stands in front of his cage barking and frustrated, but he means no harm. Pogue is a totally different dog when he’s outside. He’s calm, a little shy, and well-mannered. Pogue has a great “sit” on command and is gentle taking treats. He liked being pet and came over for more petting periodically. He doesn’t show much interest in toys at this time, but we hope once he gets used to being in a shelter environment he’ll open up to play.

Oh Yoshimi, you won’t let those evil robots defeat me. This poor guy is so sad. He breaks our hearts. He was abandoned by his last family when they moved out and left him behind. Yoshimi is heartbroken. He lays in the front of his cage, shaking, and ignoring the treats volunteers and staff leave behind for him. Outside he’s gentle and sweet. Yoshimi walks so nicely on leash, sits on command, and leans in for petting. He is completely filthy and could use a bath and TLC to heal his aching heart. I told Yoshimi that some people don’t really understand the meaning of family, love, and selflessness and that he is loved, important, and loyal. Those people just didn’t understand his worth. Please help me get Yoshimi into a home who will stand next to him forever. He is 9 years young.

Ruby Ruby Ruby Soho! We love this sweet girl. It appears she was attacked by something when she was a stray, her face has a bunch of nasty cuts on it, but that doesn’t stop her from being the best. Ruby is easy to handle and loves to be close. She rolls to her back for petting and loves belly rubs. Ruby doesn’t mind being handled all over, I was able to look at her teeth, and she pushed her entire body into me for kisses. This girl is about as affectionate as they come. We think Ruby just wants to be someone’s lap dog.

Patti is a short, little squat boston terrier mix – or so we think. She’s adroable. She barks at the front of her cage to get your attention, then is easy to leash and walks nicely on leash. Patti is a pretty chill little gal. She just likes to lay down and get some pets. She allows for easy handling all over, let us look at her teeth, and was quite content just being a bit of a couch potato. She knows how to “sit” on command and didn’t really like the treats we had. She’s a cute little piggie pie.

Sheena came in as a stray on 9/7/19 so she is still trying to figure this shelter thing out. She is gentle and easy to handle but did a lot of owner searching once outside in the play yard. She allows handling all over and seemed to like having her chest scratched. Hoping her family misses her as much as she seems to miss them. More to come on this pretty girl!!

Young man, Lucero is as cute as a button. He’s probably around 45 lbs right now and I don’t think he will get too much bigger. Lucero is a bit shy and unsure of life right now, having just been surrendered by his owner. He seemed a bit unsure of how to walk on a leash, often stopping outside and putting the breaks on. Perhaps he was never walked on a leash before. Lucero is young but well mannered. He does’t jump or mouth for attention. He knows ‘sit’ and takes treats very nicely. He allowed me to pet and handle him all over. He is definitely a bit confused right now and goes between being excited about exploring to shy and shut down and worried. This tri colored pup doesn’t deserve to grow up in the shelter – let’s get him out soon!

Officer Bradford reporting for duty! He’s here to police your leash 24/7. You don’t walk him, he walks you. He’s just a puppy but has a life time of personality and sass in his tiny body. Straight out of the kennel all the way to the play lot he tugged hard on the leash. Good thing he’s cute. He came into the shelter with an injured back leg and will require further medical treatment to see how bad it or if it will require surgery. Officer Bradford will also require some training, he scored close to zero on the manners & listening skills. He’s a do what I want when I want guy. OB only listened when he thought there were treats involved and jumped repeatedly to get them. Other times he threw his body at my just because. I think I’ve seen why his back leg is the way it is, self induced injury. He’s pretty mouthy with hands and toys too. He loves to play and chase but only for blimps at a time. Then he was back to doing his own thing usually with his nose to the ground. Officer B allowed handling all over including being picked up. It by no means quieted his mind and he was super squirmy still. He’s a puppy that’s never had anyone care enough about him to instill structure. That’s about to change though!

Laura Jane started out very scared, desperate to stay pressed against the back of her kennel avoiding me. She was still reeling from her surrender and uncertain about everything. Taking it slow we eventually made it outside where she went from cowardly to courageous in a flash. Laura Jane was using all her strength to get away from her new situation. She will flail on the leash or do abrupt turn and dashes that could easily pull a grown man down to try to gain her freedom. Her owner searching was continuous but she would allow handling more and more as the time passed. She even started coming to me on her own after a failed escape attempt. Laura Jane didn’t appear to know any commands and was too stressed to play with toys or take treats. Going back to her kennel wasn’t as tough as coming out.

Milo is a big knucklehead but so easy to handle. He’s definitely had some training and he walks so nicely on leash, specially for still being a puppy. Milo grabbed the first ball he found in the lot as soon as I dropped the leash. He had a hard time deciding between keep the ball in his mouth or taking my treat offering at first but he came to a solid conclusion and dropped the ball. Milo did a few jumps in excitement but listens well and sat every time I asked. He has a gently mouth and played nicely with toys, trading up for treats each time. He allowed handling all over and respected my space when I was crouched down. Someone has already done the hard work getting Milo educated on basic manners, all he needs is a family that will show him a true forever.

Boxcar is a dogs dog. He was a four legged fan over two all day long. Boxcar was fine to leash and walked with his nose firmly planted on the ground throughout the yard. When I’d called his name he maybe would look my way. He allowed handling all over even though he could’ve done without my attention. My treats were unappealing and the toys were only so so. Then another dog walked by the fence and Boxcar lit up. He was so stoked to see somebody that spoke his language. He didn’t care if they barked in his face or totally ignored him, he was going to be their friend. He was easy to return to his kennel and seemed happy to lay down. The next time I took Boxcar out he was much happier to see me. He engaged right away, showed off a sit and a down in exchange for some treats, and enticed me to play a game of fetch. He zoomies in full ballet leaps and nudges me to throw the ball again adorably. Boxcar is a young guy that auditions new humans before letting them in.
