Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably seen Spotify in the news lately—and as Neil Young and several other artists leave the streaming service, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has gone and developed his own alternative.
“Tired of Spotify?” He tweeted. “Come on over to Weezify.”
Available to download on the Apple Store and Google Play Store, Weezify is exactly what it sounds like: a streaming platform exclusively made up of Weezer demos (around 3,500) and no one else. Bundles of demos are available to purchase, each at about $9 and varying in amount. The Green Album, for example, has 39 demos available; 2014’s Everything Will Be Alright in the End boasts a staggering 1,190 demos.
The app description reads: “A Spotify-like player for all of Rivers Cuomo’s demos (1975 – 2017). Close to 3,500 demos. Follow curated playlists. Create playlists of your favourites. I made this app myself. It took me all of 2021 to make. I hope you enjoy it.”
