Today, we’re happy to share the latest release from Dan Vapid (Screeching Weasel, The Riverdales, Sludgeworth) a day early. Welcome to Dystopia is the fifth full-length album from Dan Vapid & the Cheats—and it arrives just in time for their show with The Methadones this November. Listen below.
Dan Vapid and the Cheats’ latest release comes just a year after their well-received 2021 album, Escape Velocity. The new 16-track album features songs like “Chip On My Shoulder” and “Sour Pauline,” the latter of which has a music video that dropped earlier this month.
“I try my best to see the good when I can, but as a society we have reached a turning point and it isn’t good. Many of the songs on Welcome to Dystopia reflect that,” says Vapid. “2020 was the most surreal year I’ve seen in my lifetime. I hadn’t had that ‘holy fucking shit’ moment since 9/11/2001, even Rod Serling couldn’t have made the 2020 episode of the Twilight Zone if he had tried.”
Dan Vapid & The Cheats will play Chicago’s Cobra Lounge on November 19, as part of a stacked bill that includes the Methadones, the Copyrights, and Mikey Erg (get tickets here).
