When asked what the newest single was about, here is what the band had to say:
I was homeless, mentally checked out, addicted and feeling very lost. I was out of love with the world and myself. Sometimes it takes destroying everything in your life and yourself to be able to see a beginning to a better me. What I was doing was not effective in making my life better. I was lucky enough to have a few people close to me to wake me out of my spiral. I will do my best from here on out to make a better version of me. – Jay Navarro
“Thank You” was the natural choice for the next song to release because it felt like the polar opposite to “Never Go Quietly” [the band’s first new single, released in June 2025]. The juxtaposition of the 2 songs essentially sums up The Suicide Machines as a band to me personally. While I know J took a very personal approach to the lyrics, this song was the perfect soundtrack for putting together a video that reflects on the past year of this band and all the travels and adventures we got to go on together. At this age, still traveling to play music with your best friends, how could you not be grateful? – Justin Malek
2025 was a big year for us, lots of life changes with hitting the road full-time again. I still do my best to remain conscious of how incredible it is that, after all of these years, people still come out to see us, pick up our records, and listen to the new songs. It truly drives me to focus on being and playing to the best of my ability. When this song presented itself, I really dug the lyrics because in a way, it’s a summary of a lot of feelings I have about doing just that. When Justin asked for video clips of band stuff from the past year, it was wild going through stuff on my phone. In the general sense of feeling thankful that I still get to travel and make music with my friends, I felt really accomplished with what 2025 was for us and am thankful for every moment of it, and now we’re working on making 2026 and every subsequent year even better. – Rich Tschirhart
Jay had written this batch of about eight or nine songs after he’d been listening to a ton of New York hardcore. He and I got together at our rehearsal room and ended up knocking out structures for all of them in about an hour. That particular song always stood out as more of a Machines song than the rest, so we decided to include it with a batch of songs we were recording. It had come together so fast that it only felt natural to keep the same vibe when tracking it. We didn’t want to overthink it and so there were really only a couple takes done and we used whatever ended up happening. It’s pretty stripped down and kind of a “warts and all” type of vibe, but I think it perfectly embodies the sound of the four of us in our practice space with the amps cranked up loud. – Ryan Vandeberghe-Malburg
