It’s a terrifying indescribable feeling that only a rare amount of people can fully explain: knowing the exact moment of when you’re going to die. Can you imagine knowing the last day, hour, minute, of when your last breath will take place? And worst yet, how it’s going to happen. Your brain is officially programmed to only think about that one moment. The inevitable.
Well if you’re going to go out, then you might as well go out on the highest caloric intake you can conjure up– soul food. Researchers at Cornell University studied the last meals of 193 executed inmates. Top favorites included: french fries, soda, ice cream, hamburgers, chicken, steak and pie. The average meal came in around 2,756 calories while the highest meal of all took in a whopping 7,200 calories; the equivalent to 4 days worth of calories. According to researcher Brian Wansink, the inmates crave comfort foods as a mechanism of dealing with high stress situations.
It’s important to note that only 4% requested fast-food takeout from chains like McDonald’s, Wendy’s or KFC. If Taco Bell falls under that umbrella, it’s a given where our meal would come from.
