The decade that brought us the end of the Vietnam War, a presidential resignation, Skylab, the Iran Hostage Crisis, bands like the Ramones and The Clash, and an abundance of history defining moments.
Unfortunately, men’s fashion was not one of them.
Apparently too busy with cocaine and swinger parties, the best we could muster in the fashion department was shiny high-waisted pants, skimpy briefs, bell bottoms, mustard colored leisure suits, polyester everything, and knitted sweaters with belts.
You have to be confident to wear clothes like these, and these men certainly don’t seem to be lacking in that department. What is even more surprising is that enough women found these fashions attractive enough that the population actually increased during the 1970s.
