When it comes to engaging Gen X and Millennials with political jocosity, no one has mastered the technique quite like former “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart.
And while millions of tearful viewers yearned for nothing more than for the former host to remain as host of “The Daily Show” for an additional year because of the impending Trump raucous, Stewart, nonetheless, handed over the keys in August 2015 to Trevor Noah.
But, unlike going into hiding like the reclusive Johnny Carson or even more recently, David Letterman, it only took only a year for Stewart to fully reappear. And it might have something to do with it being just to good to pass up. The Republican National Convention in Cleveland is comedy gold and both Stewart and Colbert are fully aware.
That’s why it comes as no surprise that last night he rejoined longtime friend and contemporary Stephen Colbert on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” of which he is also act as an executive producer.
And, if nothing else, his appearance reaffirms that Stewart, just like Michael Jordan rejoining the 1994 Chicago Bulls, is still a powerhouse in his prime, especially when it comes to the genre he essentially created. And Colbert did his part as well, reprising his Colbert persona from his Comedy Central days:
Now, the question is whether or not Stewart will be making any more appearances during the Republican or Democratic conventions? The good thing it seems likely.
“It was really great to see Jon Stewart again,” said Colbert after his sketch with Stewart. “You know what would be nice? To have that happen again sometime this week.”
