Ask 102-year-old Millie Bowers what the secret to a long life is and she’ll tell you “have a beer, doctor’s orders”.
Mildred Bowers, Millie to her friends, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, has lived through the Great Depression and two world wars, and credits a daily beer with living to over 100 years.
Every day at four o’clock at the assisted living facility she lives in, Millie has one beer.
Is it something she’d recommend for all seniors? Millie tells WSCS Live 5 News, ‘yes, if they like it,” she said, prompting laughter from her friends. “Look, there are people who don’t like coffee and people who don’t like tea, but I want everyone to drink what they like.”
For Millie at least, a beer a day keeps the doctor away.
Let’s all raise a glass to Millie Bowers, who officially turns 103-years-old on August 31st.
