The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees have been revealed. This years finalists are Pearl Jam, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Tupac Shakur, Janet Jackson, Journey, Bad Brains, Electric Light Orchestra, Chic, Chaka Khan, The Cars, Jane’s Addiction, Joan Baez, MC5, Yes, The Zombies, Joe Tex, J. Gelis Band, and Steppenwolf.
These artist were eligible but did not receive a nomination this year: The Smiths, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Blur, Smashing Pumpkins, PJ Harvey, Soundgarden, Hole, Tom Petty (solo), Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Sting, Kylie Minogue, Tracy Chapman, Alice in Chains, Phish, The Meters, Warren Zevon, Los Lobos, Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, De La Soul, and Sinead O’Connor.
The top five vote-getters will be announced in December and then inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April of 2017.
Artists become eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first record. Besides demonstrating unquestionable musical excellence and talent, inductees will have had a significant impact on the development, evolution and preservation of rock & roll.
