Chef Juan Licerio Alcala has created the world’s most expensive taco, in what we would assume is an attempt to trick rich dumb gringos out of their money.
The $25,000 taco is only available at Frida, a restaurant located at the Grand Velas Los Cabos Resort, which also has a $40 fish taco on the menu.
What exactly do you get for $25,000? One taco filled with langoustine, Kobe beef, Almas Beluga caviar and black truffle brie cheese. An exotic salsa comprised of dried Morita chili peppers, Ley.925 ultra-premium añejo tequila and civet coffee tops the taco which is served on a gold flake-infused corn tortilla.
The taco requires a $12,500 deposit.
And what beverage do they recommend pairing with those $25,000 tacos? How about the hand-crafted white gold and pure platinum bottle of Ley.925 Pasión Azteca Ultra Premium Añejo accompanies the tacos for an additional $150,000.
“People are excited and a little surprised about how you can eat a taco for $25,000 (497,000 pesos) when you can find one on the street for 10 pesos,” said chef Juan Licerio Alcala.
“Then I explain the delicacy, the technique and the harmony that they will lift from the plate, and that it’s worth it.”
A fool and his money are soon parted, but so far no one has actually ordered this $25,000 taco since they began offering it in February
Personally, we don’t trust anyone who pays more than $3 for a taco.
