According to the Hollywood Reporter, filming is underway for Run This Town, a movie about the late Rob Ford, renowned drunk and mayor of Toronto from 2010-2014. The film will revolve around Ford’s notorious final year in office—during which video surfaced of the mayor smoking crack cocaine and talking shit in 2012—and focuses on a reporter trying to break the story.
From the very limited amount that is known about the script, the reporter character appears to be based off of Robyn Doolittle, Toronto Star‘s award winning reporter who followed and broke the story IRL. However, a man will play the reporter in the film because, according to Doolittle, “Why have a woman be a lead character when a man could do it? Ammaright?”
Rob Ford will be played by English actor Damian Lewis (Billions, Homeland)—and a whole bunch of makeup and prosthetics, obviously.
