If you stop and think about it, it’s kind of weird that there aren’t more classic horror movie soundtracks based around punk, metal, and hip-hop. Classic horror composers like Italian psych-rock icons Goblin and director-slash-synth-wizard John Carpenter are some of the biggest influences in music right now—but if you ask most people for their favorite songs from horror movies that aren’t scores, their list probably won’t be much longer than the Ramones’ “Pet Sematary.” Which is funny, considering that the overlap between horror fandom and punk/metal/hip-hop is about a hundred percent.
We’ll be mixing horror flicks with punk at the end of the month with The Riot Fest Halloween Special, our second ever drive-in. So in that spirit, we decided to put together some of our favorite horror soundtrack moments to get the mood rolling. Click the video below to get our punk horror playlist started.
