Join us throughout the year as the Riot Fest staff recommends their favorite spots in the neighborhood on a continuing basis—in hopes that you’ll make a stop in Douglass Park before, during, and well after the fest concludes.
Located on 2880 W. Cermak Rd, the family owned and operated Mariscos La Playa is known primarily for its excellent seafood menu. What will pull you in immediately though is the expansive variety of specials (have you ever had a pineapple stuffed with octopus?), the nautical décor, and the fantastic service from staffers.
Between the four of us dining Monday afternoon, we loved the garlic & diabla shrimp, fish filet with chipotle sauce, and a few excellent tostadas: fish ceviche, octopus, and cooked shrimp. The food came loaded with some hearty side dishes (worth noting: the fries), and the serving sizes were more than worth the price per plate—especially for some quality seafood.
We stuck to non-alcoholic beverages—Mariscos La Playa is BYOB—but the variety of margaritas and cocktails will make anyone happy, whether you’re craving a lemonita or an oyster cocktail. Best of all, there’s a gorgeous patio out back for when the sun’s out; live music accompanies the fantastic food every Saturday and Sunday night, (5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.).
We’re told that kids eat free with an adult entree; we did not test this, as none of us are children. Nonetheless, it was a stellar experience altogether, and we can’t recommend Mariscos La Playa enough.
