The BBC Reports today that one member of jailed Russian punk band Pussy Riot has been freed. Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, was released today after her lawyers convinced the judge that she had not been able to take her guitar out of its case before being tossed out, therefore she was not involved in the infamous “punk prayer.” The two other convicted members Maria Alyokhina, 24, and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, were not released and as of now are set to finish out their sentences.
The three Pussy Riot members were jailed in February and sentenced to three years in prison in August. Since the verdict the band has released a new single, other members have fled the country and the band’s named was found “presumably” written in blood at a murder site.
