Would You Drink Punk Wheatgrass?

DC exhibition "Permacounterculture" will cultivate wheatgrass with music.
August 25, 2016 (August 24, 2016) // Riot Fest

Wheatgrass

Plants and animals kingdom have complex relationships that are often quite reciprocal with one another. Think flowers and bees, trees and birds, wheatgrass and punks… Wait, what?

That’s what we thought too, when we first heard about artist Naoko Wowsugi’s new exhibition, “Permacounterculture.” The project, which will take place at the Hamiltonian Gallery in Washington, DC over the next few weeks, was conceived around the idea that punk shows can make a great environment for wheatgrass cultivation, and that concertgoers can benefit from the plants’ nutrients. And also that more people should go to more punk shows.

From the Washingtonian:

“In the middle of the gallery, Wowsugi and others have built a wooden ‘garage,’ where 10 local punk bands will serenade little green shoots of wheatgrass that grow out of plastic nursery flats in the garage’s cutout windows. Gallery attendees can wander in, pluck a handful of wheatgrass, and bring it to a gallery staffer on the sidelines, who juices the “punk-infused” shoots with a hand-powered crank.”

(Wheatgrass) Shots, anyone? Read more about “Permacounterculture” here.
