The song ‘Memorial Day’ is from ‘Music For Everyone’ – a compilation curated by Taking Back Sunday’s John Nolan to help support the ACLU.

From an interview with RockSound.tv, Sleep On It’s guitarist / vocalist TJ Horansky talks about the song and ‘Music For Everyone'”
“‘Memorial Day’ was inspired by a conversation I had with my grandfather, a WWII veteran,” explains guitarist / vocalist TJ Horansky.
“It’s about wanting to be as strong, brave and kind as the men who came before me. My father taught me to be selfless and respectful to EVERYONE; I try to live up to that example every day. In that way, we felt Memorial Day was a thematic reflection of the ACLU’s mission and dedication to protecting the rights of EVERYONE in this country.
“‘Memorial Day’ is also a very special part of Sleep On It’s history. Originally appearing on our EP ‘Safe Again’, we decided to re-work and re-record the song specifically for this compilation. It is an emblematic tie of the past to the present. In that same vein, we were honored to have our former lead vocalist John Cass sing on the track again. We love you, dude!
“Thank you again to John Nolan and Taking Back Sunday for inviting us to be a part of something so positive. As a reminder, ALL proceeds will go to the ACLU and their fight against discrimination towards people of color, Muslims, women and the LGBT community.”

LYRICS:
Head first into holidays, a bitter taste of who Ive been this year
I’m not proud of my pride, I fell short every time
I keep trying to be half the man my father was, but all I feel is fear
I want to be remembered for something that inspires
I can’t shake feeling like I’d fix it all if I could write that perfect song
In the key that your heart plays, minor chords in major phrase
But I’m not sure if I really think that I deserve the love I found inside
‘Cause god damn I still miss you, but god damn I don’t want to
So just take your hands and bury them inside of my arms
Come fall apart
Came down from the cloud that I’ve been sitting on to finally feel the rain
I called home to my family, I found warmth, found stability
Maybe we’re just all a little tired and trying to feel okay
With the world on our shoulders, each year getting older
So just take your hand
