Riot Fest Adoptable Puppy of the Week: (URGENT) Nala, Luna, Sven, Tiger
URGENT. ADOPTERS NEEDED.
The volunteers’ hearts are aching: Dogs keep flowing through the shelter dogs, transfers and adoptions are low, and unfortunately beautiful souls have had to pay the ultimate price… THEIR LIVES.
This is the SAD REALITY of what goes on in this country, and in your city, Chicago, when there are simply MORE animals available than space available (CACC is FULL). Specific to Chicago Animal Care & Control:
1) 2018 year to date, CACC has taken in 1000+ more dogs than 2017. The ‘save’ rate has been higher, but intake is WAY up.
2) In the United States, CACC is the MOST UNDERFUNDED public access facility – $2 per capita vs. the next lowest funded at nearly 2x that.
3) Dogs pay the price when there is no legislation that bans the abundance of backyard breeders in this city.
4) CACC is Chicago’s open access facility meaning that they have to accept EVERY animal that walks in.
5) Low awareness of CACC and a lack of ability to communicate about the dogs losing their lives via the media.
OUR THANKSGIVING WISH: Is that every dog MAKE IT OUT alive and happy. Please help! Please share, please #ADOPTDONTSHOP and please help us create awareness.
NALA A190386 • 4 year old Spayed Female • Available for Adoption at Chicago ACC
NOVEMBER – Nala is very excited to get out of her cage and spend some time outside. She likes to run around and stretch her legs in the playlots. Nala can catch treats and sometimes show her sit. Depends on her mood – ha ha. Nala can be focused on other dogs she sees in the yard be reactive at barriers.
OCTOBER – When I met Nala, she was woozy from her spay. She sat patiently in her kennel to go out and walked nicely into the yard and was happy to go potty outside. She’s on the more independent side but would check in with me for reassurance. Nala spent a lot of time sniffing the yard and the toys, but then came in for pets. She loved having her little body rubbed! Her fur is a bit patchy, she’s definitely still got milky boobs, but she’s a gorgeous girl that will certainly thrive with proper care. Nala didn’t seem to know any commands and wasn’t particularly interested in treats, so we spent most of our time just hanging out enjoying each other’s company.
LUNA A181720 • 1 year old Spayed Female • Available for Adoption at Chicago ACC
AUGUST UPDATE – Luna is sad to be back at CACC a 2nd time this year. She can be a little shy coming out of her cage but it doesn’t take too long to get her leashed up. She can pull a bit on leash and can strain to get to other dogs in the yard. When she sees other dogs Luna can get quite barky and doesn’t pay attention to anything else. We went to a smaller area where we could hang out and she engaged a lot more. She takes treats well and has a nice sit. Luna enjoys getting attention and being affectionate but she can also get a little overexcited when you’re down at her level. Let’s make this stay with CACC Luna’s last. Come meet her today.
MAY – In her kennel, little Luna was initially so shy and sad – she had just been surrendered, reasoning was simply that her owner had no time for her (Luna is 1 year old, and had lived with a 9 year old child.) Luna walked nicely on leash throughout the pavilion and got a little pep in her step when we headed outside. I let her sniff and take her time, then we headed into a run to play. Luna was immediately sweet and engaging with me – she is not shy in the slightest! She can get overstimulated when you’re down on her level (I think she was just really, really excited to have someone to play with) but responds to correction and is easily redirected. She nails her ‘sit’ and she knows how to give paw (fast forward to 1:55 in the video: https://youtu.be/hpHMd8tj1FI). Very sweet and very solid dog all-around!
Came in as an owner surrender on 8/20/18 and is available for rescue now.
SVEN A192007 • 4 year old Neutered Male • Available for Adoption at Chicago ACC
Sven is a skinny boy. He needs to gain about 10 more lbs and since he really likes treats, we’re gonna try to make that happen. Sven is happy when you approach his cage and he’s easy to get out. He didn’t show any reaction to walking past other cages with dogs barking. Outside he walked ok on leash and didn’t pull much. During some off leash time he showed no interest in toys – just treats. Sven has a nice sit and takes treats well. When other male and female dogs walked by, Sven offered lots of soft tail wags and play bows through the fence. He allowed me to handle him all over but wasn’t seeking out a ton of physical contact from me. He just wanted my treats!
Tiger A191718 • 4 year old Neutered Male • Available for Adoption at Chicago ACC
Tiger came to ACC as an owner surrender. It was reported he didn’t live with other pets and the owner is moving. Tiger is a beautiful brindle with tiger-like markings. He barked in kennel but no issues exiting. He was quick to leash and headed to the door, he didn’t pay attention to the other dogs. We had him out for playgroup, he was a little stiff and seemed unsure. We decided to try again another day. Since he’s new and we didn’t want to introduce him to too many things the first time out. So we were in the yard area while PG was taking place. He was very interested & observed from a distance. Tiger was distracted but he nailed sit every time and allowed handling. He likes treats and toys. We need to give this handsome boy some time. I walked him a few days later and he was very responsive. He has a prance to his gait, very elegant and he’s awesome!
Came in as an owner surrender on 10/28/18 and is available to rescues NOW.
