The holidays are a great time to celebrate with family and maybe even have a festive cocktail or two, three. So we got together some of our favorite people from Archie Powell & The Exports, Weekend Run Club, Sleep On It, and Blood People to share some of their favorite holiday cocktails. Make sure to enjoy responsibly and stuff.
Fuzzy Bath Robe from Archie Powell of Archie Powell & The Exports
Conveniently (or frustratingly, depending on time of year), my two favorite ice cream flavors (Egg Nog and Peppermint Stick) are holiday seasonal, and I often consume them together. I’m also an enthusiast of Egg Nog in its liquid, alcoholic form so much that my recipe has been on trial for inciting excessive yuletide misconduct of myself and several other family members for the past five years or so. There’s now a rule at our Christmas party that expressly forbids consumption of alcohol before 9 pm. I guess we don’t necessarily get to choose what we’re remembered for.
Here’s a simple Amaro Flip that indulges my favorite holiday flavors while being about half as nuclear as my full batch of Nog usually is. No, the egg will (probably) not make you sick.
– – Not Until 9 – –
Fuzzy Bath Robe
3/4 oz Branca Menta
3/4 oz Amaro Montenegro
3/4 oz BroVo Amaro Kim
1/4 oz Amargo Vallet
1/4 oz Demerara (2:1 ratio)
Whole egg
Add all ingredients to shaker tin. Dry shake vigorously for one minute, then add ice and wet shake until achieving a proper level of chill. Strain into Nick & Nora glass, garnish with slapped mint and an Angostura swirl. Best enjoyed from within a fuzzy bath robe.
Spiked Almond Joy from Bridget Stiebris of TheWeekend Run Club
I prefer drinks that taste like they have no alcohol in them. This is because I have the mind (and taste buds) of a 12 year old. I just like to have fun, you know? This is why my favorite holiday drink is a Spiked Almond Joy. All it takes is 30 seconds in front of a microwave and some light measurement action, and you’re golden. Repeat as often as necessary.
Spiked Almond Joy
-1 packet hot chocolate
-1.5 oz coconut rum
-1 drop almond extract
-whipped cream (or your favorite whipped dairy supplement)
In your favorite mug, mix cocoa mix with 6 oz. hot water and stir. Add rum and extract. Remember, just one drop of extract. Don’t mess this up for us. Stir again and smother in whipped cream, and remember a time when you had self-respect. Enjoy?
Hazelnut Hangover from Jake Marquis of Sleep on It
Hazelnut Hangover
– 1 oz Frangelico
– 1 oz Bailey’s
– 1/2 oz Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire
Add all ingredients to a shaker and shake. Pour into martini glass. Add a cinnamon sprinkle garnish because I’m festive & annoying.
The Shapeshifter from Aly Jados of Blood People
Enter the Shapeshifter. A cocktail concocted to curb ones holiday crankiness as a chameleon of class. The Blood Orange juice and lime serve as a camouflage, visually presented in a familiar holiday hue but with a citrus sweetness to pull you from the cold depths of a holiday party hell and transport you to some place warm, vast, and dusty. But don’t let the sweet color fool you, the fruit is met head-on by the smoked ghost, Mezcal, providing the comfort of a warm fire. The iced THC Oil drops slip past your taste buds, leaving behind a hint of herbal glaze, like the sap of freshly cut tree. This is sipped back, with a fire added to the lips from the Tajin. All together, a Smokey-Sweet-Fire that will not only calm you with the first sip, but by the end transform you into someone else entirely. And we will drink to that.
The Shapeshifter
– 1 pt Mezcal
– 1 pt Blood Orange Juice (squeezed)
– 3 drops THC Oil
– 2 pt Club Soda
Iced and Shaken. Served in a Tajin-rimmed glass with a lime
(Band Note: Due to the supreme high quality of ingredients suggested this drink is powerful; A Great Reactor, if you will. Little-Dab-L-Do-Ya.)
